The Pembroke swim team could not have asked for a better finish on the night they honored their seniors. The boys team dominated their meet with Silver Lake, winning 82-62, while the Lady Titans also edged the Lakers 86-74. Silver Lake hung around until the backstroke. Caitlin Gallagher, Devon Fallon and Shannon Savage clinched the meet from the Titans in the event by earning 11 points to Silver Lake’s five. “Some surprise swims from some girls helped us get the edge there,” Brian Noyes said. “That was nice to see.” In addition to Gallagher’s win in the backstroke, Pembroke also got first-place finishes from Jenna Bostwick in the breaststroke, Emma Ripatrazone and Rebecca Blathras in the 50-yard freestyle and Jenn Salas in the 200-yard freestyle. The 4x200 freestyle relay team of Salas, Blathras, Bostwick and Ripatrazone also came in first, as did the medley team of Gallagher, Bostwick, Ripatrazone and Shayna Nolan. On the boys side, Jay Wainwright had a big day for Pembroke. Wainwright started the meet with a win in the medley relay with Wesley Carroll, Brad Davison and Mark Blathras and then won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Davison also had three first-place finishes on the day, winning the breaststroke and the freestyle relay with Carroll, Teddy Crosby and Andrew Crossman. Carroll also took first in the 50-yard freestyle to end the meet with three wins. The meet on Monday was a chance for both teams to honor their eight senior swimmers. The Titans used the break after the fourth race to thank Savage, Gallagher, Rebecca Blathras, Monica Bettle, Katherine Spaulding, Sarah Winn, Chris McCray and Teddy Crosby. “They are the first swimmers for me that I have coached for four years, so this was special,” Noyes said. “They are great kids, and I’ve seen some of them come from not even being able to swim 50 yards without stopping and needing a rescue to competing and racing. They have enjoyed it and that is one of the things I want to see happen.” |
