Betty Ford Schell, 83, of Middletown, Del. and formerly of Pembroke, died on Jan. 17, at Broad Meadow Nursing Home.
Betty was born on Dec. 15, 1926 in Bryantville, daughter of the late Arthur B. and Mildred Dunn Ford. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and their Altar Guild, Senior Citizens and was also a tour guide for Mount Harmon, Winterthur and George Reed House and a member of the Chestertown Choral Society. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening and going to the beach. What she enjoyed the most was spending time with her children. Betty was a graduate in the Class of 1944 from Pembroke High School. She went on to graduate from Wheelock College, Class of 1949, at which time she moved to Wilmington, Del. where she became a teacher and met her husband, Curtis Schell. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years in 1998. She leaves a son, Bradford Schell of Lewis, Del.; four daughters, Sally Baker (Alfred) of Clemmons, N.C., Kirsten LeGates (Kevin) of Milford, Del., Annie Lehman (Cpl. Walter Sherlock) of Middletown, Del. and Martha Soots of Pfafftown, N.C.; a brother, Marcus B. Ford of Bryantville; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Funeral service was held on Jan. 19 at St. Stephen’s Church in Earleville, Md.
